If you are a community or amateur group seeking the right to perform a play by a Canadian playwright, please review the information below regarding performance rights and royalties.

If you wish to apply for Amateur/Education Performance Rights, please use our online form:

Amateur/Education Performance Rights Form

Although we try to accommodate all requests as soon as possible, it can take up to two weeks to process your request for amateur performance rights. You will be notified by email regarding the status of your application. You MUST apply for performance rights before you start rehearsals.

Infringement of copyright is illegal. It is an infringement of copyright to give a public performance or reading of any play, either in its entirety or in excerpts without prior written consent.

It is also an infringement of copyright to copy all or part of any play by any means of reproduction. Rights for professional productions are obtained through the author or their designated agent; contact Playwrights Guild of Canada for up-to-date agent information.  Professional contracts that have been negotiated between the Playwrights Guild of Canada and the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres should be used by all PGC members when being produced in a PACT Theatre. Information about, or actual rights for amateur performances may be obtained through the Playwrights Guild of Canada. The standard rates are:

Full-Length Play:

  • $100 for the first performance
  • $85 for each subsequent performance

One-Act Play:

  • $85 for the first performance $70 for each subsequent performance
